Tangier Police Make Massive Ecstasy Bust, Seize almost 132K Tablets
Rabat – Tangier’s anti-gang brigade, operating under the prefecture of police, successfully foiled a large-scale drug trafficking operation on Tuesday afternoon. The operation, carried out in coordination with the General Directorate of Territory Surveillance (DGST), led to the seizure of a staggering 131,864 ecstasy tablets.
In an official statement, Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) reported that a security operation conducted in the Gzenaya region and the rural commune of Sebt Zinat on the outskirts of Tangier led to the arrest of a 34-year-old individual with a criminal record.
The suspect was the subject of multiple nationwide search warrants due to his alleged involvement in a criminal network engaged in the illegal trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances. Various searches carried out in multiple residences linked to the suspect uncovered the seized psychotropic substances, discreetly concealed in separate plastic bags, according to the same source.
In addition to the drug seizure, authorities also confiscated a utility vehicle and an amount of 971,537 dirhams, suspected to be derived from illegal drug and psychotropic trafficking.
The arrested individual has been taken into custody pending the judicial investigation supervised by the competent prosecutor’s office. The aim is to determine the alleged connections of this criminal activity and shed light on all the criminal acts attributed to him.
